The Canadian economy experienced a slowdown towards the end of 2019 with a mere growth of 0.3% in the fourth quarter, a drop from the previous calendar quarter’s 1.3%. Recent indicators suggest global growth stagnation is reflected in transitory factors such as labour and transportation disruptions. This should be offset with a moderate rebound in terms of GDP growth in the first calendar quarter

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is the last of the major Canadian banks to enter the exchange-traded funds (ETF) industry with four new proprietary tracker funds. The bank’s asset management arm, CIBC Asset Management, has filed with the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) two actively managed fixed-income funds and two smart-beta equity funds.

Canada’s structured products market continued to grow in October, with 405 products striking during the month, the second-highest monthly figure in the past year, adding some C$1.14 billion (US$0.86 billion) in notional. After almost three years of incessant monthly growth, the number of live products as of the end of the month stood at 9,695, carrying some C$52.62 billion in notional.
