A key highlight of the past week was the 21st edition of the SRP Europe Conference and Awards, which took place from 18 to 20 March at etc venues, Bishopsgate in London.

The event kicked off with a full-day masterclass delivered by Tim Mortimer, managing director at FVC and Patrick Oberhaensli, CEO of Evolids Finance.

On 19 March, the first day of the conference gathered a total of 30 speakers across seven panel discussions following a presentation of structured products activity across the globe by Nikolay Nikolov, head of analytics at SRP.

Panellists discussed the latest market trends, index innovation, funds of structured products, as well as actively managed certificates (AMCs), digitalisation, and listed structured products before closing the first day with a discussion on risk management from a hedging perspective.   

The conference day gave way to the SRP Europe Awards 2024 were industry individual s and teams were recognised for their contribution to the market.

A special award this year was an In Memoriam accolade awarded posthumously to Matthew Robinson, who started his career in structured products back in 1994 and held his last role in funds of structured products at London-based Levendi Investment Management.

On Thursday 19 March, the second day of the event was shorter but did not lack high profile speakers and stellar contributions with up to 22 panellists providing further insight on product innovation, regulatory issues, market activity across European markets, retirement solutions and portfolio management.

The SRP 2024 Conference came to a close after three days, with over 400 delegates attending.

Looking at the market, SRP News showcased content from its latest SRP wrapper guide 2024 Europe including recent efforts from British advisory and financial engineering firm Hilbert Investment Solutions which is seeking to leverage its structuring capabilities to offer new retirement solutions to investors in the UK and France. 

In Sweden, Strivo collaborated with BNP Paribas for the launch of 3000 Fondobligation Idea, a six-year certificate linked to an actively managed hedge fund in Sweden.

On the arrivals & departures lounge, SRP reported on the exit of Nicolas Reille, managing director, head of EQD structuring for Asia and head of EQD sales for Asia ex-Japan, who parted ways with Barclays after four years.

In London, the UK bank confirmed the appointment of Varun Mahajan who has joined as director, head of platform development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea) and Asia.

In Switzerland, the SIX Swiss Exchange reported the departure of its long-lasting chief Christian Reuss after 15 years at the helm. The exchange’s current head of trading, Werner Bürki, will take on Reuss’ role on an interim basis.

The exchange also announced a strategic investment in Germany’s index technology provider BITA to enhance the functionality of its infrastructure and further expand into additional key markets.
