Some US$8 billion was invested in approximately 4,400 structured products linked to a custom or proprietary index between 2019-2022, representing around 27% of the market for strategy indices.
Custom indices achieved their highest sales in 2019, when US$3.1 billion was invested in products tied to this category – the equivalent of 29% of all strategy index-linked sales. The following years, sales were much lower – around US$1.5 billion – although their market share remained high, totalling 30% in 2021 and 27% last year. The highest selling custom index was the GS Momentum Builder Multi-Asset 5S ER, which accumulated sales of just over US$1 billion from 475 products
