Despite last year’s controversy in South Korea around equity-linked securities (ELS) and derivative-linked securities (DLS), sales reached a new record high in 2019 fuelled by the low interest rates environment and the steady rise in global stock markets.
The combined value of equity-linked securities (ELS) and derivatives-linked securities (DLS) issued in 2019 hit a record KRW129 trillion won (US$104.5 billion), up 11.3% from 2018, according to data released by the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) of South Korea.
