Macro events play out very quickly and financial markets adjust a lot quicker now than they used to do in the past, according to panellists at the 'Profiting from volatility and using options wisely' discussion at the SRP Europe Conference 2019, held in London on February 7.
“The market has already become numb to Brexit and even after the Trump election it took only half a day for the markets to normalise again,” said Sander van Zelm, head of institutional trading for Europe at Optiver. “There are now more instruments to play these events. “You have daily options, weekly options etc.” The increasing volatility in 2018 had a positive impact on market makers as volumes grow when there is high volatility in the markets, according to Tom K
