Investors in the Netherlands prefer investment funds and equities over ETFs, leverage products and notes, according to a study conducted on behalf of the regulator.

The number of Dutch investors increased by 160,000 to 1.6 million in 2020, according to the Consumer Monitor Investing , which is published annually by the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). One in five households now invests – an increase of 11% compared to 2019 – and building up wealth is their main motivation. For two-thirds of new investors, the need for higher returns was the main reason to invest and more than half felt they were helped by the ease with wh
