Fortis is to offer ABN Amro World Bank Eco-3 Plus Note to retail investors in Belgium and Luxembourg. The move follows Fortis’s purchase, along with Royal Bank of Scotland and Santander, of ABN Amro just three months ago.
World Bank Eco-3 Plus will be sold through the Fortis network of over 1,100 branches in Belgium and Luxembourg as well as online.
The note, which is issued and guaranteed by the World Bank, has a six-year term and pays a variable annual coupon of between 3% and 10%, depending on the performance of the ABN Amro Eco Index.
"ABN Amro, which has a well-known reputation for placing a high priority on sustainability, created a structure that fits well with the World Bank's desire to raise awareness of sustainable investments,” said Gino Alzetto, the Bank’s executive director for Belgium and Luxembourg.
A similar product was launched and sold via ABN Amro’s Dutch, Belgian, Swiss and Spanish networks in October last year, around the same time that Fortis and it partners announced they had successfully acquired the bank. However, this is the first time that Fortis has cooperated with ABN Amro for a retail investment.
"At Fortis, sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) means generating both financial and sustainable value. We offer our clients products that satisfy their goal of achieving healthy investment returns and their desire to contribute to a better world,” said Camille Fohl, Fortis’ retail banking CEO.
The note will open to subscriptions from tomorrow.
