Richard Couzens (pictured), formerly co-head of global product origination across the equities and funds structured (EFS) business at Barclays, has joined Bank of Montreal's (BMO) capital markets division as a managing director.

Based in London, Couzens will have global responsibilities in the Canadian bank's structured products business which is housed within the bank's capital markets. It is understood that Couzens will report to Abid Chaudry and Deland Kamanga, co-heads of global structured products (GSP), for sales; and Luke Seabrook, head of global trading products, for structuring. A BMO spokesperson confirmed the appointment but declined to disclose Couzens reporting lines.

BMO's capital markets division is headed by Darryl White as chief executive and group head; and includes Patrick Cronin as chief operating officer; Perry Hoffmeister as head of global investment & corporate banking; and C.J. Gavsie and Chris Taves as co-heads of fixed income, currency & commodities (FICC).

Couzens, who shared responsibilities with Brad Hurrell at Barclays, left in September 2015 after almost 12 years, shortly before the bank closed down its Bmarkets platform in Europe as part of the strategic review announced by the former chief executive Antony Jenkins who designated the business as non-core.

Couzens was global head of product origination for investor solutions until the summer of 2014 when Barclays expanded the global product origination team to cover all issuance capabilities, multi-asset listed solutions and the bank's repack business under Barclays' equities and funds structured (EFS) business which reports to Corinne Grain, head of EFS sales, Emea and head of EFS Pillar I sales, global, at Barclays.

Couzens joined Barclays Capital in 2004 as product origination chief, covering multi-asset structured products, derivatives and funds; sales and structuring; platform and product development; listed solutions (exchange traded products); and professional practice (global regulation, governance and controls).

Before joining Barclays Capital, Couzens worked in the equities division at Bear Stearns.

Couzens could not be reached by press time.
